There's been a lot of talk recently about how we're gonna find/ afford a replacement for Lee.
I started to wonder how we got him in the first place! Surely a team in League 1 is more attractive than a team in the conference!
So what managed to attract the quality players we've had since the conference days? Potential?? Father in LJ's case (he was only attracted cos his dads the manager) what about Gav? :?
thanks in advance from (a rather confused/hopeful) GB :) |

LJ came from Brighton
GW from the feeder club
McIndoe likewise
Skiverton - prior to Yeovil, Welling Utd
Colin Pluck / Miles - Dover (?)
Steve Collis - Watford
Paul Terry - Dagenham and Redbridge
Darren Way - Norwich
Kevin Gall - Bristol Rovers
Going back a bit further:
Gerry Gill - Bath
Howard Forinton - Oxford City
Of those, most IMO have been signed with potential in mind (i.e - they could play at a higher level than when we purchased them) |

One thing that may work in our favour in attracting new players is, that the profile of the club has been raised a lot over the last 5 years. The general feeling within the game, as I understand, is that we are a good club who treat players well.
This type of reputation can only help when it comes to bringing new people in. Money will have a say of course but, our good name will also help.
Gary would undoubtedly attracted players here for who he was. With his new club doing slightly worse than us :) , that may not now be the case. As Thommo is doing better, perhaps he has more of a pull. |

Agree with what you say Mal, I can't also help but think that the way we have handles the LJ situation can only help.
As I have said elsewhere, it sends out a message to other players : go to YTFC, a good club, play football the right way and if your good enough they won't hold you back - now that might all change in 3/4 years when we're challenging for the Prem title   however, I think our reputation has grown and grown over the past 4/5 years.
A credit is, although backhanded, you never hear the statement "non-league giant killers" in the FA cup any more  |

Darren way, thought he had been released by Norwich and was training with Plymouth A to keep fit and Thommo asked him up. |

| Thinks that's the point I was trying to make in another thread, we have a lot of players who were "prem rejects" - we have some peopl on here bemaoning the fact that DW (who incidentally is noit the manager !!) is looking to use this route again - TBH, It's not served us too bad at the moment. Who would you have in the side : Darren (Premier Reject) or Pablo (Record signing) ?? |
