I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your messages since I decided to post the correspondance between myself and the club this morning.
I originally thought I'd 'upset the applecart' by sending the original letter. The intention was to point out to the club that the forum is here to stay and will continue to be. Also we don't want to fight with the club, we are all supporters (note there are no sarcastic quotes) and wish the club to do well. To that end, I wanted to offer an olive branch to the club. I wasn't expecting to become a partner to the club, but just wanted to establish a relationship. One that either party could call on, maybe offer the club an opportunity for a bit of PR, and direct a few thousand visitors their way.
I made the position clear on my moderation policy. We moderate only when something libellous has been posted, or if the post is clearly unwarranted. We will not moderate posts that simply criticise, and just leave the positive posts untouched. We are in the UK, not North Korea.
It appears that instead, the club have decided to take offence. I felt it was appropriate to post their reply on this forum, as I could not believe what I read. Now several of you have had a chance to read what was said and have commented on it, I now feel that I made the right choice.
The club have complained that people on here hide behind a veil of anonymity. This appears to be their only argument. For that reason, I would recommend wherever possible, people edit their signature (via the Profile link above) to show their real name. This is of course optional, but it will help to show the club that we are not all 'faceless'.
However, I do wish to point out something to our posters. Your personal data (name, email, IP address etc) is completely safe. It will not be provided to any party, unless a court orders it. The club cannot bypass this, the Data Protection act expressly forbids me to divulge your details. Please do not feel at all threatened, and continue to post as before.
Thank you,
Darren Mallinson

With a small caveat to that - I wouldn't recommend putting anything up on the signature/profile that you would be uncomfortable having a total stranger see. The internet is obviously an entirely public arena. |
