I see the News of the World are at it again.
It seems they're not content with knocking our national team when we should be getting behind them.
Now we're being fed a story about a couple of Premiership players playing 'sex' games with a mobile phone. To be honest, what anyone gets up to behind closed doors is up to them. I really don't give a damn which way someone leans, so long as it doesn't affect me in any way. Of course, we all know what paper will claim it's the official paper of the England team when the World Cup kicks off.
Not content with that, they're also carrying a story about British troops beating Iraqis. I do condemn the actions of the people responsible, but it appears that the News of the World has sat on this story for some time. Obviously they were looking for the best time to print this. What better time to do this than when the Danish cartoons have already stoked the fires of hate in the Middle East.
What do you think the reaction is going to be? In Iraq, Our Boys will now become the target of further hate. Because of a small minority of idiots, the rest of the UK forces in Iraq will be the subject of further attacks. Now the News of the World has ensured the whole world are aware of what has happened. Elsewhere in the Middle East, a group already angry at a lot of EU countries will turn their hate towards the UK. Our embassies will be attacked. Rather than a peaceful end to the protests, the News of the World has come along and thrown petrol onto the fire.
All this so that they could sell an extra few thousand newspapers. Or is there a greater motive? Create as much hate as possible in the Muslim world so that a holy war is inevitable? Nothing sells newspapers better than a war.
I stopped reading the News of the World a few years ago. If only others would do the same, perhaps we'd have a paper that is more representative of it's readers. |

| They'll claim that the story is in the public interest but I really can't see how they justify printing crap like this day after day. |

Regardless of the rights or wrongs of the acts allegedly committed by our troops, the NotW should be charged with inciting racial hatred. Innocent people (soldiers or not) may well be murdered because of the NotW.
This 'newspaper' and its counterpart The Sun should be boycotted by all people who think that this story is not in the public interest.
If the NotW had gone to the MoD/Government with the video and had not received assurance of suitable action to correct any wrongdoings then, and only then, should the story have been printed. The video should never have been released.
But I'm an idiot.

I'm slightly embarrassed to say that we have taken the NotW at our house for the last couple of years. Mainly for the sport from my POV but my wife likes the Celeb bits.
Anyway, no more. The Sven thing annoyed me and now this British troops story has tipped me over the edge, I shall be cancelling it forthwith and writing to them to tell them why.
Anyone got any recommendations of a DECENT paper to switch to. Please don't say the Mail because I can't bear that either....and if Macphisto comes back with the Dandy or Viz or Just 17 something like that, don't be surprised! |

Viz is an excellent publication.
If you want a paper that doesn't peddle crap then you'll probably have to switch to one of the serious papers like The Telegraph or The Times. But then again they do use a lot of big words so probably not a good idea. :) |

What words like PSEUDOPSEUDOHYPOPARATHYROIDISM or HONORIFICABILITUDINITATIBUS or OCTAMETHYLPYROPHOSPHORAMIDE. Nope, couldn't cope with that!
Serious recommendations would be welcomed. Was thinking of the Tellygraf actually...what do you have? |

I do find the Times and Telegraph are probably a bit too much for a quick read. And the Mail is way too right wing.
I've been reading the Express a couple of times a week. It seems fairly reasonable in it's coverage. |

| I don't get time to read a paper during the week so I usually buy The Telegraph on a Saturday. The General Knowledge crossword is the best bit and normally keeps me going for a few days. Haven't won a prize yet though. :( |

I emailed the NOtW after the Sven ordeal and had just the standard response form their customer services department! I told them that I would no longer buy the paper and have not done so! This latest publication has only strengthened my opinion of the paper!
If any of our soldiers are killed through reprisals for the publication of this video the NOtW should be hauled through the courts! :evil: |
