Yeovil Town have expressed an interest in former Millwall striker Carl Asaba - but look set to be pipped to his signature by Derby County. The 33-year-old frontman is a free agent after leaving The New Den in the summer and is currently training with Leeds United.
Championship side Derby appear favourites to capture Asaba, who has also been targeted by Yeovil's League One rivals Brighton.
The Glovers themselves have asked to be kept informed of developments, with boss Russell Slade keen to add a targetman to his squad.
Standing 6ft 2in tall, Asaba would complement the other forward options currently at Slade's disposal.
The Glovers lost 1-0 to League One leaders Nottingham Forest on Saturday - but more than matched their high-flying opponents.
"I certainly don't think we deserved to lose and on another day we perhaps could have won 1-0," said Slade.
"There are a lot of positives to take out of the game. At the beginning of the season Forest were favourites to go up and we were favourites to go down. You wouldn't have thought that if you watched the game.
"We feel that we're doing reasonably well at the moment and one point from the last two games is really harsh on my players, who are working exceptionally hard.
"But we know we have to get better if we want to be successful. I don't want to be plodding in League One, I want to be doing well and so do my players."
