WHEN managers take over clubs in the manner Russell Slade has and revolution is in the air, the emphasis is so much on the new that it can easily be forgotten how many inherited problems they are powerless to resolve or over look or get tricked by a good pre-season campaign.
All the pre-season hype and hullabaloo has been exposed as so much hot air by a horribly lame performance that suggests Harrold will soon be the fans victim of displeasure. On the poverty of Harrold’s performance today, I can see Morris’s inclusion earlier than expected, fitness permitting (yet again), hopefully Tuesday.
Central defensive partners at Yeovil last season were like speed daters. Their relationships were brief as each individual was soon moved on to the next. With Forbes and Skiverton let’s hope the new manager, can establish a pairing that can get it together long-term at the back. Skiverton struggled at times last season, but might argue that never knowing who he was going to be alongside next and inquires didn’t help. In Forbes, he has a solid quick experienced player at his side and also the presence of Mildenhall can only bring confidence and more importantly consolidation to the back line.
Skiverton’s talismanic presence was always going to have a galvanizing effect, but the distribution, vision and energy Barry injected on the right was no less influential, and there is a strong case to be made for the inclusion of both Barry and James from the start against Bournemouth, with Terry the obvious candidate for the subs bench. The coruscating talent of Cohen was dimmed like last season by over stretching himself, often covering Davis’s defensive duties and being the legs of Terry. Jones stuck to his task well, thanks to Cohen yet again and even his biggest critic would struggle to find fault with Jones today.
Gray made a very encouraging start, albeit against moderate opposition in Whitebread and probably one of the weaknesses defences Yeovil will see this season.
SO HERE we are , talking about a second straight season in the league One. Two summers ago, none of us would really have expected to be here. Yet I’m disappointed for only getting one point from the Den, when like so many, I would have settled for a point before hand. |

Well said. Sometimes I can't believe where we are, we were non-league for 108 years and thanks to Gary Johnson and Steve Thompson, we're in League 1 and I've got full confidence that Russell Slade can get us the highest position in our history. |
