Hi Guys,
I am a reporter for The League Paper and covered 90% of Grimsby Town's games last season; therefore it has become a great interest to me to see all the comments regarding the wheelings and dealings between yourselves and The Mariners through the summer.
I have to chuckle at all the spiteful, bitterness coming from Grimsby fans and officials alike at what has gone on. The facts are simple, they had the opportunity and the players to win promotion to League One last season and blew it due to the fact they have too many weak links and not enough squad depth. Of course the best players are going to move on instead of being stuck in the rut that is league two!
I must say though, you guys have got the pick of the players from Grimsby; other than Rob Jones who was sold to Hibs for £100k Slady has certainly brought his favourites with him.
As for Slade being a long-ball specialist- he had a 6ft 5 inch striker in Gary Jones, a super-quick forward in Michael Reddy and a 6ft 6 inch centre back in Rob Jones - would you not play the long ball game with a squad like that? He's a good manager with the right resources and he wont let you down when it comes to tactical awareness.
Mildenhall is a reliable keeper with pretty solid kicking game and a decent shot stopper. He rarely makes mistakes and he's a big lad on crosses too.
Kalala is a cut above; I personally rate him as one of the best players outside the premiership and you will have the pleasure of seeing why next season. The guy will win you games on his own, his game has got the lot!!
At 50/1 its worth an each way bet on you boys in League One next season.
I'll be keeping tabs on all your results.
All the best.

Good to hear from you. Its certainly been a close season full of changes for us, some at the expense of Grimsby and others not. We are beginning to find ourselves again as a team and most of the Glovers are excited about the new season and keen to see what progress we have in reality made as a team.
We have experienced losing our best players to higher divisions, its happened a few times to us, and we weren't happy about some departures, but that's football.
Off to the Den in less than 2 weeks ! Eeek ! Bring it on... |
