Some visitors to this site may remember the tragic fire at Bradford that claimed 56 lives and injured 265. It is 21 years to the day that it happened.
Bradford City were being presented with the 3rd Division Championship trophy, and cameras were there to cover the event. As the game was approaching half time, an update was being reported on TV. I remember seeing flames starting in the stand, and watching the panic as people spilled onto the pitch.
It's one of the worst things I've seen happen on tv, and it's something I'm never going to forget.
This was one of the events that spelt the end of the old style wooden stand, partly due to the speed the fire spread.
Take a minute or two to reflect on this at some point today. If you're too young to remember this, or would like a reminder of the event, visit the BBC site:

| It's a sad thing to happen and hopefully a lesson has been learnt. Personally I would ban smoking in every stand across the country, I understand that people do have the right to smoke so to be fair I think smoking in the stands should be created to keep the smokers and the non smokers happy. |

Very sad thing to happen and it is right to remember those who were lost in this tragic accident.
One of my best friends is a huge Bradford fan and he still talks of the fire as if it was yesterday. It changed so many peoples lives. The Bradford City museum at Valley Parade is worth a visit if you are ever that far up north. |
